Food License is one of the most important requirements in case of food business. Ever food manufacturers, traders, wholesaler, suppliers, etc. is required to get registration / license under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 before the commencement of the business. The License is valid for 1-5 years depending upon the years for which the license has been applied by the applicant.

Thus it is very important to renew the license as and when the license is about to expire. License is required to be renewed at least 30 days before the expiry of the license, and if the same is renewed after the prescribed time of 30 days than a penalty of INR 100/- per day shall be levied till the date the license gets renewed.

Procedure:
  • Step 1: Application filling: - Prescribed form is required to be filled online depending upon the type of the food business the applicant is doing. the application form is submitted along with the requisite fees and a self deceleration form and other documents as may be prescribed.
  • Step 2: Verification: - On submission of application, the authorities shall examine the same and may also inspect the business premises to make sure that all the information disclosed in the application form are correct.
  • Step 3: Approval: - After the verification and inspection, if the authorities gets satisfied, the application gets passed and license is granted.
  • Step 4: License: - Once the license is granted by the authorities, it take around 60 days to reach to the applicant, failing which, the applicant can communicate with the concerned department.
